ABOUT US
Animalcoffee is a small
boutique roastery based in Bali, Indonesia. We began as a rare seed
business in the late 1990’s when Troy Davis, the owner, spent several
months of each year in Sumatra, Java and Borneo collecting unusual
plant seeds for export to public gardens, universities and private
collectors. Over a period of time Troy developed a network of porters,
mountain guides and seed collectors, many of whom work in
coffee plantations and who continue to work for Animalcoffee
collecting kopi luwak.
All Animalcoffee kopi luwak is sourced from wild civets; we do not
farm or cultivate civets under any circumstances. Our operation
remains necessarily small due to the limited quantity of wild collected
kopi luwak we can obtain.
We do not regularly wholesale to third party retailers and Animalcoffee
kopi luwak is not available in supermarkets in Bali or anywhere
else.
Animalcoffee roasts small quantities of kopi luwak on a daily basis,
specifically on demand. This allows us to roast for each individual
order, and to control the quality of kopi luwak purchased under
the Animalcoffee brand. It also ensures that the kopi luwak you
purchase from Animalcoffee is fresh, an important consideration
when purchasing premium coffee.
Animalcoffee is passionate about good coffee; we are involved in
the industry from the initial collection of kopi luwak through to
coffee preparation in the cafe. We have an extensive collection
of antique coffee equipment and are currently experimenting with
roasting other types of coffee using antique roasting equipment and
age old artisanal roasting methods. We’re hoping to make some of
this coffee available through the site soon.
